She's often characterized as a "bookworm". Not quite a "bookworm" though. She often is scared that people will interpret what she says and takes it the wrong way. Every since she was a child, her parents told her virtues to have. However, with her being too kind, she if often gullible and can get herself in trouble. Even though she is gullible at times, when she's not being brought down the wrong way, she notices people's clothing, patterns, actions. Her being overly-observant often annoys people.

中: HISTORY: MeiYi was born into one of the less fortunate families in the Dumplings house. Her father was a struggling farmer, while her mother was a seamstress. Her family would have to scrape whatever they could to get by. Her older brother, YuTao, was a student, always at school, but cared enough to spend time with his little sister.

From a young age, MeiYi demonstrated skill of a fashion designer. She loved drawing, noticing little details, trends, and playing with cloth. Maybe, she would be the one to bring her family out of poverty. After school, YuTao would teach her basic math and how to read. In her free time, she would draw dresses and skirts. Around age 7, she learned how to sew, and a year later, she began to base her clothes that she sewed up after her designs. It took a few years to perfect her skills, and her mother hoped she would become a noticed seamstress one day. When she was 10, she began to sew more clothes than they needed, and when she finished, she gave them to YuTao to sell in town as he made his way to school, and every time he went off to sell them, he came back home with no clothes, but a small satchel of gold coins.

After three to four years of this routine, her family became better off. They now could have some money to buy some food that the whole family could enjoy. One day, the household received a letter from a wealthy man's wife from town. Apparently, she had been buying every single dress design that MeiYi had made. MeiYi read the letter and agreed to go and see the wealthy man's wife. MeiYi designed an intricate dress, blue silk-like cloth with a fan design pattern and gathered her jade jewelry that has been passed down from generation to generation.

After about a week, the day came to visit the wealthy man's wife. She set off into town, as she felt self-conscious in her dress. When she arrived to the house, she looked up in awe to see such a beautiful home. She knocked on the door and a servant opened the door. The servant was clothed in the most luxurious clothing she had ever seen.

"The Lady of the House has been expecting you."

MeiYi nodded and glided in and followed the servant to a room and she knocked the door.

"Come in."

MeiYi gulped in anticipation. Am I ready for this? This is no time to second guess yourself MeiYi!

"Hello."

MeiYi bowed low. The lady gestured for her to sit as she admired MeiYi's dress.

"D-did you make that?"

MeiYi nodded. Her eyes scanned over the dress designs.

"It...is beautiful. Now allow me to introduce myself, I am Chen WenJie. And I want to make an offer to you, that may just change your life. I have noticed your financial troubles and it would be a pity to let your talent to go to waste. Now my offer is for you to become a fashion designer under the Chen family's guidance. We'll provide everything and you will get half of the profit. We'll make you...famous."

It was a hard offer to refuse. Her whole life would change. Going from poor to rich in a matter of weeks, if not days. She had to accept the offer.

"I accept your offer."

"Excellent, go home and tell your parents and brother of this news. They will be so proud and come back here with your belongings."

MeiYi nodded as she stood up and bowed. Before she left, WenJie said one thing to her, which shocked her.

"You don't need to bow to me anymore. We are equals now."

And excited MeiYi went to her home to tell her parents about the news. The night before she left, her family made a farewell dinner. The next morning, she packed her few belongings and told her parents that they could visit anytime. And then she left her home.

She stopped in front of WenJie's home, to see a man open the door.

"Ah, so you are the little fashion designer that I have been hearing so much about from my wife. It is a pleasure to meet you. Come in."

The man guestured her in and as she stepped into her new home, WenJie greeted her.

"I see you have met my husband. I hope you two get a long. Now are you ready to start your new life?"


"Yes, I am."

So, this is where my new life begins...
